G Rated Movies and Shows to Use in Your Classroom!

Do you know what two sounds this teacher loves more than anything?
  1. Silence.
  2. Kids having in depth conversations about their learning.

By incorporating Netflix movies, shows, and documentaries into my classroom, I am able to achieve a little bit of both.

The kids LOVE when they see NETFLIX pop up on the Smart Board.  They call out all kinds of titles that they want to watch.  I ignore these suggestions, considering a majority of them are not appropriate for school.  Instead, I refer to my Google DOC titled "G Rated Netflix Shows and Movies for the Classroom" to choose a more appropriate and educational selection.

As a treat for reading my blog, I am giving you this list of "G Rated Netflix Shows and Movies for the Classroom" for FREE!  This list includes over 50 titles!

A majority of the non-ficiton shows and documentaries are geared towards intermediate grades (3rd and up), but may also work for lower grades, depending on your kiddos.  The fictional movies and shows work for any grade level.

I often use the Depth and Complexity icons and frames during these lessons.  These icons and frames allow students to think in depth about the topic that they are learning.  I love these using these frames because they're easy to plan, and the kids create the discussion!

If you are unfamiliar with these Depth and Complexity icons and frames, check out this document developed by Sacramento City Unified School District.  This document contains explanations of each icon and various ways to use them within your classroom.

In my classroom, I often use Exit Slips at the end of my lessons, so it only feels right to end my blog posts the same way.

Today's Exit Slip:

What movies or shows will you use in your classroom, and how do they connect to the content that your kids are learning?   Share your answer in the comment section below!
